The majority of energy most of us spend upon a job interview
precedes it. Given that we are trying to present ourselves
at our best, this is hardly surprising. What is surprising,
however, is the importance of contacting the employer after
the interview regardless of its outcome.
The post-interview follow-up traditionally takes the form
of a letter sent directly to the person who interviewed you.
This letter thanks the company for investing their time talking
to you. It allows you to complete the interview process and
show that your are courteous, efficient and interested in
the job. Be sure that your letter has the following:
- Thank the company or organization for selecting
you for an interview.
- A brief, positive description of how you felt the
interview went.
- Your impressions of the company or organization.
Keep the letter brief and to the point.
A post interview follow-up letter will build good will between
you and the potential employer, and even if you don't get
the job, they may very well refer you to colleagues who have
an opening available for you.
